Nerd Girl Army Profiles

ANGIE - Art Nerd Girl In Existence

Self Portrait With ManifestoOk, so I had a hard time figuring out what the E could stand for....

I'm Angie, an artist and general nerd currently residing in the desert of West Texas, USA.

I love brilliantly bad movies, genuinely good and geeky movies, various forms and examples of animation, manga, books of various genres, and playing computer MMORPG's and Sim games in between the sudden cycles of manic artistic creation that are about the only thing that can get me up away from the keyboard for more than a few hours. I also absolutely adore tabletop role-playing games, but alas, cannot find a group to get into out here, so my volumes of books sit around gathering dust.

Linette: Not from a mythical species.

picture of Linette. Looking a bit mad.

Hello all, I'm Linette and I'm a geek, and a girl.  Yes, yes, yes, ye doubting Thomas' we do exist (as any of the women reading this page will know!).I'm English, but have emigrated to the fair shores of Australasia, and with this discovered that geeks are pretty much the same the world over.  I harvested new friends from a roleplaying convention (and it turned out through the wonders of the internet they knew my UK chums), and the rest is history. So yeah, I roleplay, I play magic, I used to play computer games until I did postgrad research with them, and it became too much like my work (and now I run Linux, so many of them don't run for me now anyway *sob*).  I like Sci-Fi and actual Science! (the exclamation mark is necessary).I work in IT, and currently am the girl on the end of the phone when IT departments need to know how to fix their complex backup system.

Heli: Geeky But Nice...ish

Hi. I'm Heli, a twentysomething female geek, Finnish of nationality and geeky by mentality. I'm currently living in Netherlands, though not for long. I'm at that crucial state of my life where I'm finishing my BA in English Philology/Linguistics so that I can start my MA in the autumn. I'm an academic geek, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Show me an interesting theory, and I'll be on it like glue, especially if it has anything to do with languages, history, politics or cars. Or kitties. I love kitties.

Fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk and nature documentaries make me happy. I love my comics, both Eastern and Western. Movies, music and TV series keep me also happy, especially movies. I know more movie trivia than is healthy, really. I also love shiny things, like really fast cars.

I play tabletop RPGs with a group of four other ladygeeks, and I love them dearly. Our poison of choice is World of Darkness, but Exalted and Planescape receive much love, too. I play console games to a lesser extent, but I do play them. Jade Empire, KotOR and Ookami are favourites - although I still haven't finished Ookami...

I don't care much about people's gender, but I do get pissed-off when mine becomes an issue. Me being a woman does not diminish or increase my capabilities, thank you very much. Other than that, I'm openminded and relatively nice...ish.

One day, I will rule the world from my own private library, with my army of cute kittens.

Katja Blu-The Nerd Comes Naturally...

A healthy dose of nerd, geek and dork!

Katja

I'm at my happiest when I can Indulged in Sci-Fi, Fantasy and humorous related things and having conversations with those pesky intellectuals who I call friends. :-)

I'd like to think of myself as being my own person but I also like to relate to others so I'll sum me up by saying I'm part Daria, Part Jane from the best toon I have ever seen and a touch of Willow Rosenberg. So sarcastic, artistic and sweet...sometimes evil.

I feel my sexiest when holding a toy gun, sword, lightsaber...and I day dream a lot of being a hardcore action girl fighting off crime with my awesomeness or being an evil villain about to press that big red button *smirk*.

I'm here because I can post good little finds the Internet has spat out for me to swallow (like a mother and child bird) without hopefully being trolled for not searching Japanese school girl porn pictures instead and adding some serious topic to it so it gets the OK.

I'm no Natasha Henstridge and maybe I can't fix your computer all the time (It's not my profession but I've seemed to stash the information away in the brain archive from what I have learned and heard...Ahh, screw it!  I'm a Terminator that knows all! ROAR!*)

But I am good at being insightful, smart and of course a little unco. So i'm sure you'll grow to love me and my posts!

Amaya: Cyber Goth Geek Chick

Every week Rachel and I attend a nerd gathering in Sydney that we call Mid Week Geek; at some point she ranted lyrical on her wish for an all female geek community and eventually Nerd Girl Army was born.

I'm a pretty hardcore geek, but I'm a goth, so I get to wear sexy boots, drink too much and play the bad grrl and no one notices just how much of a nerd I am until we start talking about software design and Sims legacies.

By day I work in the IT projects division of a large Australian telecommunications company mostly doing enterprise applications technical management and software implementations. I believe in software quality and formal methodologies with a religious fervour and have worked in pretty much every part of the SDLC from programming to business analysis. These days I spend most of my time screaming at Indian and Singaporean engineers for a living.

I don't really read Western comics unless they're pushed on me by friends but I'm a pretty tragic otaku and there's  no maid themed harem ecchi that I haven't seen... and have the collectables for. I'm also a giant TV nerd and spend most of my days with anything and everything playing on my home MythTV network.

I grew up roleplaying but I don't really play much any more unless I'm at conventions. I've long since given up on CCGs and wargames because I refuse to pay for endless collectables just to play a game. I do have a fairly nice "classic" games collection though and I like to buy traditionally made games when I travel.

On my personal blog I write a semi frequent movie review segment called Non Spoilerific Movie Round Up that I will be continuing on the Nerd Girl Army and I follow up my interest in movies with a somewhat sick fascination with Awards Shows.
